Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What makes the websites you do better
than others?
A. The personal touch. Sure you can go buy a template and
either edit it yourself or pay someone even more to edit it for you, but
at the end of the day it's still a template. I do not make or use
templates. I work with you to learn about your business and your
target audience and then I make a concept site built on that. In
other words, I'm also your marketing consultant for your website.
Q. Do you do personal web sites or MySpace pages?
A. No. Unless you’re still living in 2005
and clinging to your MySpace page like it’s a collector’s item. In that
case, sure -
I’ll do it. My rate for MySpace pages starts at $5,001.99 with a
$150,000,000.99 limit. Just to be fair, of course. Otherwise, I focus on
building serious, professional websites that actually belong in this
century.
Q. If you make such great web sites that get ranked well on major
search engines why isn't your own web site ranked highly?
A. It is. If you are searching for me. But if you are searching
for a freelance web designer, consultant or web site marketing company
then you won't find me on the top of the list mainly because I don't
want to be on the top of the list with the bigger companies. I am
a one man company which is how I can keep my prices reasonable and give
each of my clients the attention their web site needs. My client
list is often full and I have to turn away clients. That pains me
to turn anyone away and if I was #1 on Google then I would have to turn
away more clients.
Q. Why do your sites rank highly on search engines?
A. Because I take the time to include a few very important SEO
(Search Engine Optimization) items. Such as the fact that I take
the time to submit your website to about 200 search engines and
newsgroups worldwide quarterly. I make sure that whenever possible
each webpage is compliant with the guidelines as set forth by the
W3C. These are
just a few examples of the things I do to help the rankings of your
site. Other companies charge extra for SEO plans, I don't.
Q. Do you guarantee that my site will be on the first page of Google?
A. No. It is impossible for anyone to make that guarantee and I
would be very skeptical of any company that does. The fact is that
every search engine has different criteria that needs to be met before
they rank you highly and even if you follow the criteria to the letter
there is still no guarantee you will be #1 on page 1. What I do is
I make sure that the criteria is met, and I stay up to date with the
ever changing rules that each search engine has. I often update
your site without ever changing the way it looks just to keep it within
the spectrum of guidelines for most search engines. I also will
not take a client whose business I do not feel I will be able to get
ranked well or I at least let them know that it will be an uphill battle
before I start.
Q. How long does it take to get ranked well on search engines?
A. Who knows? No
one. There's no set timeline for when search engine robots will crawl your
site, so it's impossible to predict when or how quickly you'll be indexed -
or
how fast you'll climb the ranks. Crawlers work randomly. Some sites get
indexed and rank well in just two weeks, while others can take six months.
It all depends.
Q. Are you hard to work with?
A. Sometimes, yes. Look, I take every
client's website seriously. The moment you contact me -
even if it's just to
say you're thinking about hiring me -
the wheels in my head start turning. I'm
already researching your business, checking out your competition, figuring
out why they rank high, and probably even building a demo site based on what
I find. I put in that kind of effort because I care about getting it right.
But yeah, I can get frustrated with clients who want to micromanage or
design their own site. If you want to DIY it, that's cool. But if you hire
me, trust me to do what I do best -
because making you look good and helping
your business do well makes me look good, too. And my business only gets
better with every client I serve.
Q. Then what if I don't hire you?
A. Then I file the
demo site I probably already created and everything I learned about your
business for future projects. No hard feelings -
until you see your
competitor's site looking sharp and ranking high because they hired me
instead. But hey, I’m not saying I’m the best... just that you might regret
not finding out.
Q. How many clients do you have?
A. Over the years, I've worked with 30+ clients at a time and many more during my career ranging from restaurant franchisees and medical offices to nightclubs, nonprofits, and tech firms. These days, I'm focused on selective projects, rebuilding my portfolio, and stirring up some new creative trouble - which means I have the time, experience, and energy to do things right.
Q. Is this page under construction?
A. Yes. But then again, when is anything
in life ever really completed?
